Do not mix regular exploration with a time-limited quest
The volcano, Maze, caves, and event-specific entrances can overlap in player conversation but are not one universal route. If you are following the Hunt badge path, use the dedicated secret badge walkthrough. This page is for safe, repeatable exploration and material runs.
The five-minute leave-base check
Bring a working light source
The Maze and other dark areas are difficult to read without light. The inexpensive Work Light is the simple choice; test the toggle before you travel rather than discovering a problem underground.
Choose fit over capacity
A large vehicle is not always the right vehicle. Tight turns, cave edges, and unloading space matter. Leave enough room to reverse and avoid building an unstable stack that makes the return trip harder.
Set one turnaround rule
Decide in advance what ends the run: one clean load, a full vehicle, low visibility, or a missed route marker. A fixed rule prevents an exploratory trip from consuming the whole session.
Keep specialty materials separate
Do not bury a target log beneath unrelated wood. Use a deliberate vehicle zone or return to base after one route. Clear separation makes milling and storage much less error-prone.
Use current in-game cues
Community maps and videos are helpful orientation aids, but changes and events can alter access. If an entrance, bridge, or interaction does not match a guide, pause and verify the current game state instead of forcing it with exploits.
What to do when a route goes wrong
- Lost in darkness: stop driving, turn on the light, and backtrack to the last unmistakable landmark.
- Vehicle will not fit: do not wedge it deeper. Turn around while there is still space.
- Load is unstable: unload or reduce it before the return rather than risking every item.
- Quest instructions conflict with the route: use the event-specific guide and check the in-game prompt.
